Stone Repairs
As an alternative to stone replacement, the in-situ repair of defective stones may be possible or even preferable. Following assessment of the repair need O’Dwyer Masonry can carry out the following to the highest levels of quality:
The re-securing of loose or delaminating material using stainless steel dowels or pins set into the sound stone which remains behind the damaged face material.
The removal of defective material from the face of an individual stone and fitting of a new stone section between 75 and 100mm thick. The ‘indent’ is secured back to sound original stone using stainless steel dowels.
Small localised repairs using mortar or epoxy materials which are easily shaped to replicate damaged stone details. The repair material is supported on a web of dowels and wires fixed back to sound stone beneath the repair.
In some instances it is preferable to retain historic carved stone work even where it is in an advanced state of decay. Here we can inject a sensitive chemical consolidant into cracks in the stone to slow down the future rate of decay.
